Aesthetics First, Accuracy Second?

It's an ages-old debate: do we aim for absolute faithfulness on focus, or do we shoot for appeal above all else? There is no one answer; it might depend on the needs of the moment:

Here is a promotional frame from the recently-released Coco. Is Miguel looking at his beloved grandmother, or at a fly buzzing around somewhere between her and the camera? If he was clocked around tightly enough to truly be focused on her, his eyes might be buried in his skull, given that he seems staged closer to the cam than she is. Must see about comparing this with the closest actual frame from the film, which has a different 'purpose' and presentation (1/24th of a second) than the promo shot (indefinite hold)... stay tuned?!
